This is Anemos, an-81-meter-long, 13-meter-tall, cargo ship, capable of carrying 1,100 tonnes of goods!

But unlike most cargo ships—Anemos has sails!

This impressive piece of engineering is owned by Towt, a French company that wanted to create a different style of cargo ship. Currently, most cargo ships use huge engines that release gasses like carbon dioxide and sulfur dioxide which pollute the air.

And with approximately 60,000 cargo ships worldwide, the shipping industry creates a lot of air pollution. So Towt wanted to find a cleaner way to transport cargo, using a non-polluting, free resource—the wind!

Anemos is uniquely equipped to make the most of this resource out on the high seas, including 13-meter-high lightweight masts, 3,000 square meters of sails, and advanced computer technology that helps locate the windiest routes.

Recently, Amenos’ crew put this all to the test, as the ship successfully sailed from its base in France to the USA, making its first environmentally-friendly delivery.
