Strange Sea Creature

And scientists find a strange sea creature!

Luxor, Egypt

First up, a 3500-year-old burial cave has been discovered in Luxor, Egypt.

Archaeologists working at the site have found several rooms, containing more than 1000 statues and 8 mummies.

The burial cave is thought to be the resting place of an important judge called Userhat, who lived during the period called the New Kingdom.

As the archaeologists continue to explore, they’re hoping for even more exciting discoveries!

Next up, a group of scientists from the US and Australia has found a new way to learn about whales!

Antarctica

This incredible footage was captured by attaching tags, containing cameras and sensors, to the backs of whales in Antarctica.

As well as giving us a whale’s-eye view of their underwater world. the tags are also providing useful information on how the whales feed, behave with each other, and even how they use their blow holes to clear away sea ice so they can breathe.

The tags are attached to the whales with suction cups, and can stay on for around 24 hours, before being collected by the scientists.

It’s hoped that the information they gather will help us to protect these incredible animals.

And finally, the first ever living specimen of a rare, and pretty weird(!) sea creature has been found in the Philippines.

It’s called a giant shipworm and, despite its name, this strange animal is actually a giant mollusk.

Mollusks are a large group of animals without backbones, including snails, slugs, oysters and squid.

Until now, the only information the scientists had about the giant shipworm was taken from a drawing of a badly preserved specimen from over 50 years ago.

However, this time they found a living shipworm on the seabed.

To open it up, they cracked the shell, just like an egg, and tipped out the slimy mollusk.

It’s over a meter and a half long – that’s probably taller than you!
